What is this thing called gravity? PUBLISHER
From a carousel of seven images of science conceptsby science writer, Helen Gavaghan. Each image displays for 8 seconds. Here, I am imagining the force needed to propel a body upward, against the force of gravity. The white image in the centre is the astronaut, experiencing the mind-expanding sense of weightlessness, as free-fall is attained within the safe environment of an orbiting spacecraft. My mind's imagining captured the moment before releasing the safety harness worn during launch. Description of illustration © by Helen Gavaghan added 17th July, 2017.
